Skylight Questions
Should I replace my skylights when I replace my roof?
If they are original skylights more than 15-20 years old, yes. Replacing them with the roof avoids tearing into brand-new shingles later, since the flashing is being redone either way.
Will a skylight leak?
A properly installed and flashed skylight should not leak. Most skylight leaks we are called to fix trace back to flashing that was never installed correctly, not the skylight unit itself. As authorized VELUX installers, we follow manufacturer flashing specifications exactly.
Can you add a skylight to an existing roof without replacing it?
Yes, in most cases, as long as the roof structure and existing roofing material are in good condition. We assess the roof during the estimate and let you know if any additional work is needed first.
